In a previous session we worked on the subtraction of the mixed numbers 2 1/8 and 1 7/8 and reached the following result:
![2(1)/(8)-1(7)/(8)=(17)/(8)-(15)/(8)=(2)/(8)](https://img.qammunity.org/2023/formulas/mathematics/college/g4gsaah7gu2lb8a0crdf9191djvpsa707t.png)
This fraction 2/8 can be simplified. Both values 2 and 8 are divisible by 2, so to simplify the fraction you have to divide the numerator and denominator of the fraction by 2:
![(2/2)/(8/2)=(1)/(4)](https://img.qammunity.org/2023/formulas/mathematics/college/ieszpkuowkofn4l84rw965m5vbhclrn3g4.png)
