Answer:

x = 3, y = - 1

Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

6x + 4y = 14 → (1)

- 5x + 12y = - 27 → (2)

Multiplying (1) by - 3 and adding to (2) will eliminate the y- term

- 18x - 12y = - 42 → (3)

Add (2) and (3) term by term to eliminate y

- 23x + 0 = - 69

- 23x = - 69 ( divide both sides by - 23 )

x = 3

Substitute x = 3 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting into (1)

6(3) + 4y = 14

18 + 4y = 14 ( subtract 18 from both sides )

4y = - 4 ( divide both sides by 4 )

y = - 1

solution is (3, - 1 )
