f(x)=3x-2

We want to evaluate it at some values of x

a) To find f(0), substitute x by 0


\begin{gathered} x=0 \\ f(0)=3(0)-2 \\ f(0)=0-2 \\ f(0)=-2 \end{gathered}

b) To find f(5), substitute x by 5


\begin{gathered} x=5 \\ f(5)=3(5)-2 \\ f(5)=15-2 \\ f(5)=13 \end{gathered}

c) To find f(b), substitute x by b


\begin{gathered} x=b \\ f(b)=3(b)-2 \\ f(b)=3b-2 \end{gathered}

d) To find f(x-1), substitute x by (x - 1)


\begin{gathered} x=(x-1) \\ f(x-1)=3(x-1)-2 \end{gathered}

Simplify it by multiply 3 by the bracket


\begin{gathered} f(x-1)=3(x)-3(1)-2 \\ f(x-1)=3x-3-2 \end{gathered}

Add the like term


\begin{gathered} f(x-1)=3x+(-3-2) \\ f(x-1)=3x+(-5) \\ f(x-1)=3x-5 \end{gathered}
