Suppose there are 81 ounces of salsa in 9 small jars of salsa. To find the unit rate, you have to divide the number of ounces by the number of jars, as follows:

\frac{81\text{ ounces of salsa}}{9\text{ small jars}}=(81)/(9)\frac{\text{ounces of salsa}}{\text{small jars}}=9\text{ }\frac{\text{ounces of salsa}}{\text{small jar}}

That is, there are 9 ounces of salsa per small jar.
