Can someone please help me? I am trying to help my son. Here is the problem:

Catherine is hanging a string of lights 40 feet long around the three sides(two on the width and one on the length) of her rectangle patio, which is adjacent to her house. The length of her patio, the side of the house, is eight feet shorter than six times the width. Find the length and the width of the patio.

Thanks everyone!!

Answer:

Explanation:

x = width

6x - 8 = length

2x + 6x - 8 = 40

8x = 48

width = 6 feet

length = 28 feet
