Explanation:

to do this you find the area of the outside and the inside

the inside area is 13x6=78

the outside area is 31x18=558

subtract these two

558-78=480

Assuming that you are subtracting the inside shape’s area from the shaded area, I believe the answer is 480.

You find both areas by multiplying the side lengths.
