A 19-ft ladder is leaning against a building. If the base of the ladder is 5 ft from the base of the building, what is the angle of elevation of the ladder? (Round your answer to one decimal place.) o How high does the ladder reach on the building? (Round your answer to the nearest whole number.) ft

we have that

Let

x -----> the angle of elevation

we know that

cos(x)=5/19 -----> cosine is adjacent side divided by the hypotenuse

x=cos^-1(5/19)=74.7 degrees

therefore

the angle of elevation is 74.7 degrees

Part 2

How high does the ladder reach on the building?

Applying the Pythagorean theorem

Let

h ----> the height of ladder

19^2=5^2+h^2

h^2=19^2-5^2

h^2=336

h=18 ft
