Arithmetic Sequences

The general term (an) of an arithmetic sequence is:

a_n=a_1+(n-1)d

Where:

a1 = The first term of the sequence

n = The number of terms

d = Common difference

We are given the sequence:

45, 48, 51, 54, ...

The common difference is:

d = 48 - 45 = 3

The first term is a1 = 45.

Calculate the term n = 43:

\begin{gathered} a_(43)=45+(43-1)3 \\ \text{ Calculating:} \\ \\ a_(43)=45+126=171 \end{gathered}

The 43rd term is 171
