x = -23

y = -7

Step-by-step explanation:

x = 4y + 5 ...equation 1

x = 3y - 2 ...equation 2:

Using substitution method:

Since both equation have x as the subject of formula, we would equate both together

x = x

Substitute equation 2 in 1:

3y - 2 = 4y + 5

3y - 4y = 5 + 2

-y = 7

y = -7

Substitute for y in equation 1:

x = 4(-7) + 5

x = -28 + 5

x = -23
