The total distance William walked is the perimeter of the two rectangular parks

Explanations:

Perimeter of rectangule = 2( L + B)

Perimeter of the first rectangular park = 2(36.2 + 33.4)

=2(69.6)

=139.2 meters

Perimeter of the secondrectangular park = 2(51.4 + 22.7)

= 2(74.1)

=148.2 meters

William walked 139.2 + 148.2 = 287.4 meters
