We have the next graph

And we must determine the limit of the function when x -> 1

In order to find the limit we must use that :

1. One-sided limits must be equal


\lim _(x\to1^-)f(x)=4

And,


\lim _(x\to1^+)f(x)=-2

We can see that they are different, then the limit does not exist.

ANSWER:

A. The limit does NOT exist
