A line through (-1, b) and (c,8) is parallel to a line through (-6,3) and (0,12). Find values of b and c that make the statement true.

____________________

The parallel lines have the same slope (m)

m= (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

Point 1 (-6,3) ; x1 = -6 ; y1 = 3

Point 2 (0,12); x2 = 0; y2 = 12

m= (12 - 3) / (0 - (-6))

m= 9 / 6

m= 3/2

______________

m= (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

Point 1 (-1,b) ; x1 = -1 ; y1 = b

Point 2 (c,8); x2 = c; y2 = 8

m =3/2 = (8- b ) / (c-(-1))

_____

3= 8-b

b= 8-3

b= 5

2= c+1

c= 2-1

c= 1

________

To verify

m = (8- b ) / (c-(-1))

m = (8- 5 ) / (1-(-1))

m= 3 / 2
