In order to make 10 dozen cookies, Hilda will require 1 1/4 cups of butter.

In order to make 4 dozen cookies 1/2 cup of butter is required. If Hilda wants to make 10 dozen cookies she would require more cups of butter.

Hence there is a relation of direct proportion between the cups of butter and cookies.

Let the required cups of butter be x.

By applying the unitary method,

x = 1/2 × 10/4

x = 5/4 = 1 1/4 (further simplification)

Thus, Hilda will need 1 1/4 cups of butter to make 10 dozen cookies.
