A student is finding 4 - (-2). Find the students mistake and correct it.

4 - (2) = 4 - 2

=2

the student's mistake is that the did not change the sign from negative to positive. When you have -(-x) negative multiplied by a negative, the negative changes to a positive, so instead of subtracting the 2 the student have to add it

4 -(-2)

4+2

=6
