Because, in general, the 2 daughters cell are identical to the single parent cell: the daughter cells have the same number of chromosomes as each other and as the parent cell, and the daughters cells are genetically identical to each other and to the parent cell. That is not true for meiosis, in which all the daughter cells differ from each other genetically, and from the parent cell both genetically and in the number of chromosomes.
