(4,-2) does not lie on the line

Here, we want to select the point that is not a solution to the graphed line

What we have to do is just to susbtitute the value of x and y. If by aritjmetic operation, the result is 16, then the point lies on the line

We proceed as follows;

a) (4,-2)

-2(4) -4(-2)

-8+8 = 0

This lies on the line

b) (1, -4.5)

-2(1)-4(-4.5) = -2 + 18 = 16

This is not on the line

c) (-2,-3)

-2(-2)-4(-3) = 4 + 12 = 16

d) -2(-5)-4(-1.5)

= 10 + 6 = 16

As we can see, only the first point does not lie on the line
