During the second generation (1930s–1940s), radio became a popular source of entertainment, and "barn dance" shows featuring country music were started all over the South, as far north as Chicago, and as far west as California. Country was given its name to suggest that it was the music of rural America. The city had music like classical, jazz, big band, and rock and roll. Then there was the music of the countryside, country music. Most of the lyrics in country songs are sad. So even if you are in a good mood, just putting on a country song can sadden you. Although they are sad, people can relate. Especially if these songs are about heartbreak, people can listen and feel the singer's pain.
