SOLUTION

QUestion 8

From the question, we have the foloowing dimentions given

\begin{gathered} \text{height}=24\text{inches } \\ \text{base}=48\text{inches, 60 inches } \end{gathered}

Find the area of the trapeziod, we have

\text{Area of trapeziod=}(1)/(2)(\text{ sum of parallel )height }

Then

\begin{gathered} =(1)/(2)(48+60)24 \\ =(1)/(2)*(108)*24 \\ =12*108 \\ =1296in^2 \end{gathered}

The area of the trapezoid is

1296in^2

Since

\begin{gathered} 16in^2=1\text{tile } \\ \text{Then} \\ 1296in^2=x\text{ tile } \end{gathered}

Hence

x=(1296)/(16)=81\text{tiles}

Therefore,

There will be 81 tiles needed to cover the trapezoidal hearth
