Wendell is building a doghouse using these pieces of wood:The pieces of wood to build a doghouse with the highest point to the lowest point of 28 inches.Each length with one mark (I) is 36 inches. Each length with two marks (II) is 18 inches. Each length with three marks (III) is 30 inches. Each end has a height (from the highest point to the lowest point) of 28 inches.Question: Wendell plans to paint the doghouse after it’s built. He wants to know what the surface area of the outside of the doghouse will be. To find the surface area, first break up any composite shapes into rectangles and triangles. Which shape is considered a composite shape? When the shape is decomposed, what are the dimensions of the resulting shapes necessary for finding surface area?

Given:

a.) Each length with one mark (I) is 36 inches.

b.) Each length with two marks (II) is 18 inches.

c.) Each length with three marks (III) is 30 inches.

d.) Each end has a height (from the highest point to the lowest point) of 28 inches.

A.) Let's determine the area of the sides.

Length = 36 inches

Width = 18 inches

Area = 2(Length x Width)

= 2(36 x 18)

Area = 2(648) = 1,296 in.²

B.) Let's determine the area of the roofs.

Length = 36 inches

Width = 18 inches

Area = 2(Length x Width)

= 2(36 x 18)

Area = 2(648) = 1,296 in.²

C.) Let's determine the area of the bottom.

Length = 36 inches

Width = 30 inches

Area = Length x Width

= 36 x 30

Area = 1,080 in.²

D. Let's determine the area of the ends.

Let's divide the shape into two parts to easily get the area.
