This is a simultaneous equation.

4x + 7y = 60--------------(1)

-4x + 7y = -4 -------------(2)

solving this equation by using the elimination method, we will have to add equation 1 and 2 together

4x + 7y = 60--------------(1)

+(-4x + 7y = -4 -------------(2)

Becomes

(4x + - 4x) + (7y +7y) = 60+-4

(4x-4x) + 14y = 60 - 4

0 + 14y = 56

14y = 56

y = 56/14

y = 56/14

y = 4

Substitute y into equation 1

4x + 7y = 60

4x + 7x4 = 60

4x + 28 = 60

4x = 60 -28

4x = 32

x = 32/4 =

x = 8

The ordered pair is

(x,y) = (8, 4)
