We have the following:

2x^2+8x=12

solving for x:

\begin{gathered} 2x^2+8x=12 \\ x^2+4x=6 \\ x^2+4x+2^2=6+2^2 \\ (x+2)^2=10 \\ x+2=√(10)\rightarrow x=\sqrt[]{10}-2 \\ x+2=-\sqrt[]{10}\rightarrow x=-\sqrt[]{10}-2 \end{gathered}
