We have the following:

To be equivalent they have to be equal, therefore we set both expressions equal

(1)/(2)\cdot(4c+8)+3c-2=4c+2\cdot(0.5c+1)

we simplify on both sides, and we are left

\begin{gathered} 2c+4+3c-2=4c+1c+2 \\ 5c+2=5c+2 \end{gathered}

When they are equal, it means that if they are equivalent
