We can calculate the percent that prefer fiction by calculating the sample proportion.

This proportion is equal to the quotient between the number of librarians that prefer fiction (X) and the number of librarians surveyed (N):

p=(X)/(N)=(12)/(35)\approx0.34

Then, if we multiply p by 100% we get the percent:

p\%=0.34\cdot100\%=34\%

NOTE: the proportion is equivalent to the decimal form of the percentage.

Answer: 34% of the librarians chose fiction.
