Tara wants to watch the amount of sugar she eats in a day. She does not want to eat more than 10

grams of sugar per day. The nutrition label on her favorite brand of coffee cake states that there are 38
grams of sugar in one serving. One serving is one sixth of the coffee cake. If the coffee cake weighs 36
ounces, how many ounces of cake can Tara eat and not consume more than 10 grams of sugar? Round
to the nearest half of an ounce.

Answer:

She can have about 1.5 ounces

What we know:

Sugar eaten ≤ 10

Coffee cake = 38 grams in one serving

[] The coffee cake weighs 36 ounces

One serving =
(1)/(6) the cake

Explanation:

First, let's find the total grams of sugar in the cake;

6 * 38 = 228 grams of sugar in the full cake

-

Now, 36 ounces = 228 grams of sugar. Let's set up a proportion;

(36ounces)/(228grams) =(x)/(10grams)

Cross multiply;

360 = 228x

Divide both sides by 228;

x ≈ 1.5 ounces

Have a nice day!
