A matrix (in plural it's called matrices) is a rectangular array of numbers, symbols, or expressions, arranged in rows and columns.

The horizontal line of entries is called rows while and vertical lines of entries in a matrix is called columns.

The size of a matrix is defined by the number of rows and columns that it contains.
