Solution

Part a

For this case we can create the following ratio:

(5red)/(7blue)=(x)/(49blue)

And then we can solve for x and we got:

x=49\cdot(5)/(7)=35\text{red}

Part b

For this case we can do the following:

\frac{2\text{inches}}{100mi}=(3.5inches)/(x)

Solving for x we got:

x=(3.5\cdot100)/(2)=175mi
