a piece of driftwood floats on the surface of the ocean. due to the wave motion, its height rises and falls relative to the height of the water with no waves. the maximum height of the driftwood is 2 feet, relative to the surface, as its minimum height is -1.5 feet.a storm surge causes the height of the waves to be multiplied by 4.A) what is the minimum height of the driftwood in the storm? type answer feetB) what is the difference between the maximum heights of the driftwood during the storm? type answer feet

a)

We know that without the storm the minimum height is -1.5 ft. In the storm this is multiplied by 4, then:

4(-1.5)=-6

Therefore the minimum height in the storm is -6 ft.

b)

The maximum height in the storm is:

4(2)=8

8 ft. The difference between the maximum height and minimum height during the storm is:

8-(-6)=8+6=14

Therefore the difference is 14 ft.
