To convert from degrees to decimal, we use the formula shown below:

DD=d+(\min)/(60)+(\sec)/(3600)

Where

DD is the decimal degree

d is the degree (whole) in original degree/min/sec given

min is the minutes

sec is the number of seconds

Now,

Given,

d = 9

min = 18

seconds = 42

We substitute and find out the answer:

\begin{gathered} DD=d+(\min)/(60)+(\sec)/(3600) \\ DD=9+(18)/(60)+(42)/(3600) \\ DD=9+0.3+0.011666 \\ DD=9.311666 \end{gathered}

Rounding the answer to nearest thousandth (3 decimal places):

DD = 9.312
