x + 3y = 2

x is adding on the left, then it will subtract on the right

3y = 2 - x

3 is multiplying on the left, then it will divide on the right

y=(2-x)/(3)

Distributing and reordering,

\begin{gathered} y=(2)/(3)-(x)/(3) \\ y=-(1)/(3)x+(2)/(3) \end{gathered}

The slope of the line is the coefficient alongside variable x, in this case, the slope is -1/3
