The slope intercept form is:

y = mx + b

Where

m is slope

b is y intercept

Since, slope = -5, we can write:

y = -5x + b

It goes through (8,4), so we plug it in and find the equation (with b):

\begin{gathered} y=-5x+b \\ 4=-5(8)+b \\ 4=-40+b \\ b=40+4_{}_{} \\ b=44 \\ \text{Hence} \\ y=-5x+44 \end{gathered}
