Bob is trying to decide what phone plan to use. AT&T costs 40 per month and 5.50$ per gigabyte of data. Verizon offers a plan of 65$ with unlimited data. What data usage would be the break even for the plan, that is, for how much data use would two plans cost the same?

With the information given we can set the following equations:

\begin{gathered} 40+x(5.50)=\text{Total AT\&T} \\ 65=\text{Total Verizon} \end{gathered}

Where x is the number of gigabytes used.

To know how much data use would the two plans cost the same we set:

40+x(5.50)=65

and solve for x:

x=(65-40)/(5.50)=4.55

Therefore, the data use for the two plans to be the same cost has to be 4.55 gygabytes.
