8-(1)/(3)x=16

first we pass the terms containing x to the right side of the equation with opposite sign, and we pass the other term to the left side of the equation( with opposite sign too))

8-16=(1)/(3)x

then we solve the left side of the equation

-8=(1)/(3)x

then we pass the 3 that is dividing to multiply the -8 in the left side

3(-8)=x

to finish, we solve the multiplication in the left side of the equation obtaining:

x=-24
