Let y be the temperature

\operatorname{mean}=(\Sigma x)/(n)

mean =-1.5

n=8

substitute in the above

-1.5=(-8+2+(-6)+(-3)+4+5+(-1)+y)/(8)
-1.5=(-7+y)/(8)

Multiply both-side of the equation by 8

-1.5(8)=-7+y
-12=-7+y

Add 7 to both-side of the equation

-12+7=y
-5=y
y=-5
