vertex form y = (x-h)^2 + k and vertex is at ( h, k)

the problem has y = x^2 + 5

then y = (x - 0)^2 + 5 the vertex is at ( 0 , 5)

shift that to the right 3 , then

y = ( x - 3)^2 + 5 now the vertex is at (3,5) nice

now shift to the left 10 ( to the left is sooner, to the right is later , that why we subtract to go right and add to go left)

y = ( x + 10 )^2 + 5 now the vertex is at ( -10, 5 ) or shifted 10 left
