Sally wants to crochet a blanket for her new baby cousin. Her pattern calls for 900 yards of thick, soft wool. She already has 200 feet of wool left from another project. At the craft store, she notices that each ball has 500 feet of wool. How many balls of wool should she buy? balls of wool Submit

Given:

Required wool for the pattern is, T = 900 yards.

The wool left with Sally is, L = 200 feet.

Each ball of wool in shop is, E = 500 feet.

The objective is to find the number of balls (x) required to cover the reminaing wool needed to complete the pattern.

To find the number of wools required, convert the total requirement of wool into feet.

\begin{gathered} 1\text{ yard=3 feet} \\ 900\text{ yards=3}\cdot900\text{ feet} \\ 900\text{ yards=2700 feet} \end{gathered}

Now, the required equation for the above situation will be,

T=L+xE

Substitute the obtained values in the above equation.

\begin{gathered} 2700\text{ ft=200 ft+x500 ft} \\ x500\text{=2700-200} \\ x500\text{=25}00 \\ x=(2500)/(500) \\ x=5 \end{gathered}

Hence, the number of balls required to cover the pattern is 5 balls.
