The tangency point, is the only intersection of the line with the circumference. We say a line is tangent to a circle when they "touch" only at a precise spot.

In this figure, Q, R and S are the points where the line that contains them just "touches" the circle. Those are the tangency points, therefore we have 3 tangency points.
