5(3²-1.50) +3(2²+2.25)

Total of $56.25

1) Gathering the data

Justin +4 = 5

movie ticket: 3²-1.50

bag of popcorn and soda: 2² +2.25

2) Writing this expression for the total spent at the movies:

5 (3²-1.50) +3(2²+2.25) Solving first what's within the parentheses

5(9-1.5) +3(4+2.25) Distribute the factors

45 -7.5+12+6.75 Adding /Subtracting

56.25

3) Hence, the expression is 5(3²-1.50) +3(2²+2.25) and Justin and his friends spent $56.25 altogether.
