I chose topic 2 because I want to learn more about the significance of the Battle of Gettysburg. I also want to better understand its connection to the Gettysburg Address. I learned that the Battle of Gettysburg was a huge battle fought over three days in Pennsylvania, a Northern state. The Union won the battle. On both sides, the casualties were high. More than 50,000 soldiers died. The battlefield became a cemetery for the fallen soldiers. President Lincoln spoke at the dedication ceremony for the cemetery, and his speech became known as the Gettysburg address. The speech is short, but it is famous for its message about freedom and preserving the American system
