Given:

5 less than a quotient of a number y and 2

That mean:

=(y)/(2)-5

In given question value of y is 24.

So put the value of y in above equation.

\begin{gathered} =(y)/(2)-5 \\ =(24)/(2)-5 \\ =12-5 \\ =7 \end{gathered}
