Standard Form of a Linear Equation

Standard form:
Ax+By=C

  • A, B and C are integers

To arrange a given linear equation into standard form, we are looking to put x and y onto one side of the equation.

Solving the Question

We're given:

y=2x+(3)/(7)

⇒ Typically, we don't include any fractions in standard form. Multiply everything by 7 to get rid of the fraction:

7y=14x+3

⇒ Move 14x to the other side:

-14x+7y=3

⇒ A is typically positive. Divide everything by -1 to make A positive:

14x-7y=-3

Answer

14x-7y=-3
