The inverse function,
f^(-1), turns the function inside-out. What was an input for
f becomes an output for
f^(-1) and vice versa.

To find the formula for
f^(-1), you need to solve the original function
N=7000-400t for
t. (Turn
f inside out.)

N=7000-400t

N-7000=-400t

(N-7000)/(-400)=t

or

t=-(1)/(400)N+(70)/(4)

We can then put in the function notation:

t=f^(-1)(N)=-(1)/(400)N+(70)/(4)

This inverse function will tell you the year that you have a particular bat population, N. (The third option in Part B.)
