Notice that the function is discontinuous specifically in x=1; therefore,


\lim _(x\to1)f(x)\to\text{does not exist}

However, we are being asked for the limit when we approach x=1 from the left.

And, according to the graph, that limit is:


\lim _(x\to1^-)f(x)=4

The answer is 4, option C.
