The volume of a gas in a container varies inversely with the pressure on the gas. If a gas has a volume of 300 cubic inches under a pressure of 10 pounds per square inch, what will be its volume if the pressure is increased to 15 pounds per square inch? Round off your answer to the nearest cubic inch.

v=k/P

Where:

V= volume = 300 in3

P= Pressure = 10 p

k= constant

Replace with the values given and solve for k:

300 = k/ 10

300*10 = k

k = 3000

Then, the equation is:

V= 3000/p

Replace with the new pressure(15)

V= 3000/15

V= 200 in3
