A piece on a game board moves forward 8 spaces on its first turn and moves backward 3 spaces on its second turn. If the pattern continues, how many turns will it take for the piece to move at least 30 spaces? Please help me!!!

Space it moves for each 2 turns = 8-3 = 5

The question is asking for how many turns will it take to move 30 spaces, since we know that the piece will move for 5 space each 2 turns(let's call this a cycle).

Cycle required for 30 spaces = 30/5 = 6

At this point, many will think that the no. of turns required is 6x2 = 12, but that's not the answer! Do you still remember how the cycle works? 1st up 5, 2nd down 3! On the 11th turn, the piece actually moved for 5x5 + 8 space = 33 spaces, which is greater than 30!

∴The answer is 11 turns
