we have that

the area of the given figure is equal to the area of two triangles and one trapezoid

see the attached figure to better understand the problem

step 1

Find the area of trapezoid

A=(1/2)(b1+b2)h

we have

b1=2 units

b2=3 units

h=2 units

substitute

A=(1/2)(2+3)(2)

A=5 units2

step 2

Find the area of the smaller triangle

A=(1/2)(b)(h)

we have

b=4 units

h=1 units

A=(1/2)(4)(1)

A=2 units2

step 3

Find the area of the larger triangle

we have

b=5 units

h=4 units

A=(1/2)(5)(4)

A=10 units2

the total area is

A=5+2+10

A=17 units2

Remember that

each Blue square in the diagram below represent one square meter

therefore

the total area is 17 m2

17 square meters
