Jacob is a high school basketball player. In h particular game, he made some two point shots and some three point shots. Jacob made a total of 14 shots altogether and scored a total of 36 points. Graphically solve a system of equations in order to determine the number of two point shots made, x, and the number of three point shots made, y.

Let:

x = number of two point shots made

y = number of three point shots made

Jacob made a total of 14 shots altogether, therefore:


x+y=14

and scored a total of 36 points:


2x+3y=36

As you can see from the graph, the solution is (x,y)=(6,8)

Therefore:

He made 6 two point shots and he made 8 three point shots
