We draw a 5x12 grid by drawing 5 squares horizontally and 12 squares vertically, like this:

We continue the process until we get to 12 squares vertically. Since there are 5 squares horizontally and 12 vertically, this means that there are in total (5)(12) = 60 squares. That means that each square represents 1/60. Now, if we multiply 1/60 by 20 we get:

((1)/(60))(20)=(20)/(60)=(2)/(6)=(1)/(3)

Therefore, a group of 20 squares represents 1/3. Since 1/3 can also be represented as 3/9, a group of 20 squares also represent 3/9.
