Suppose the function is f.

Then the average rate

f(4) = 5

and f(5) = 10

Hence,


\text{average rate of change =}(f(5)-f(4))/(5-4)=(10-5)/(5-4)=(5)/(1)

Hence the average rate of change over the interval 4
