One way we can look at the figure is that, we can take the area of the whole thing (if it were).

Then, we can subtract the middle rectangle that is taken out.

This way, we can get area of the green region.

So, let's call the whole (if it were) area A and the taken out area (from the middle) B. Hence, the green region would be:

Green Region Area = A - B

Both are rectangles and area of rectangle is length x width.

Area of A:

length 27

width 12

Area = 27 * 12 = 324

Area of B:

length 17

width 5

Area = 17 * 5 = 85

Thus,

Green Region area = 324 - 85 = 239 sq/
