The number of apples in Amber's bag is 12. Let x represent the exact number of rotten apples. it means that the fraction of rotten apples in Amber's bag is x/12

Since the fractions of rotten apples in both bags is the same, it means that

1/4 = x/12

By crossmultiplying, we have

4x = 12

x = 12/4

x = 3

There were 3 rotten apples in Amber's bag
